MEA, named by The New York Times as the world's first midlife wisdom school, provides in-person and online workshops where participants, together with a team of MEA facilitators explore topics revolving around life transitions, finding purpose, and owning wisdom, underpinned by the principle that wisdom is shared, not taught.
At the in-person workshops, participants experience both classroom and outdoor experiential learning, in the comfort of upscale accommodation that one could expect from a luxury boutique hotel.
MEA is a fast-growing start-up, with a remote Management Company team and two campuses with local Hospitality teams.
MEA currently outsources payroll and some HR functions to the PEO Obsidian.
In order to support MEA's growth, there is a need for new HR practices to be designed and implemented across the organization as well as a clear definition of MEA's desired culture and a plan to deliver on this, including regular measurement.
JOB
Summary:
The HR & Culture Manager will be responsible for the establishment of MEA's HR function and the core elements of MEA's culture.
The role will support our employee relations goals company-wide, as well as in-person at MEA's new 2,566-acre Santa Fe Ranch campus which has 43 rooms and 58 beds split between two retreat centers within walking distance of each other (our other campus is beachfront in El Pescadero, Baja California Sur, Mexico with 25 rooms and 32 beds with approximately 20 team members).
MEA's remote management team includes approximately 20 members.
Our team size in Santa Fe is under 10, but anticipated to reach between 50-100 by the end of 2024, and 100-200 in the upcoming years.
The HR & Culture Manager should possess a strong track record in human resources management with a deep understanding of current labor laws and practices (especially in New Mexico).
This role will manage day-to-day employee relations, and will support overall employee wellness and satisfaction.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following:
Human Resources Management Build the HR strategy, policies and procedures to support MEA becoming an employer of choice.
Manage the full HR lifecycle, from recruitment and training to performance management and employee engagement.
Work with department managers, Finance department and MEA's PEO partner on timely payroll processing, oversight of overtime where applicable, payroll submission, benefits, worker's compensation management, FMLA, and leaves of absence.
Respond to internal and external Human Resource related inquiries and assist as needed.
Adhere to standards of operations, policies and procedures, manuals, training material, memos, and verbal instruction.
Maintain records of employee related data in the organization's HR system and ensure all employment requirements are met.
Lead onboarding and training process for new team members.
Lead performance management processes:
define clear goals, objectives, and KPIs for achievement.
Ensure department leads are creating/adhering to reviews and schedules.
Assist leaders with identifying and adhering to labor levels and schedules.
Execute disciplinary action and conduct investigations as needed.
Act as a co-decision maker in hiring staff:
, responsible for job postings, interview scheduling, and assisting department managers with candidate selection.
Manage and update Employee Handbook, ensure both employer and employee accountability Commitment to Our Team/Our Culture Design a plan to define and implement MEA's desired culture throughout the organization, including articulation of MEA's employee value proposition, core values and measuring employee engagement.
Conduct employee engagement surveys.
Share results, and implement improvements based on feedback to ensure team satisfaction and a positive company culture.
Maintain an 'open-door' policy and respond to team member concerns with timeliness and sincerity.
Support benefits selections and other related duties during open enrollment.
Share available resources with team members in need that support quality of life, ie:
EAP program, FMLA, community offerings, etc.
Model and ensure all team members are treated with courtesy and respect in accordance with Company values.
Creates learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees.
Engage in employee-relations issues.
Hold regular informational meetings with team as needed Commitment to The Community Provide vision, leadership, and strategy that inspires team members and the community; be an ambassador for MEA.
Ensure MEA is viewed as a great neighbor by identifying meaningful and cost-effective ways of charitable contribution.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 10-years experience in HR support/management roles, preferably in the hospitality sector.
Experience working with start-ups and setting up an HR function.
Experience in HR to support remote workforces.
Collaborative working style within a results-oriented, mission-driven organization.
Personable and employee-service focused.
Solutions-oriented, creative problem solver.
Comfortable with nimble and fast paced, self-directed projects.
Excellent communication, and attention to detail.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT Physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The ability to lift and move fifty pounds safely is a requirement of this position.
The team member is expected to work 40 hours a week.
The anticipated schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm MT.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster.
